Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then found multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report initial examinations show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism left him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
