The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in employing replay systems.
Replay systems are set to arrive at The Championships this year.
Competitors will gain the option to challenge certain decisions from the chair umpire, mirroring the system already in operation at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
The new system is slated for use on the main stadium and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This development arrives only a season following the AELTC implemented ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding role of line judges.
Scope of Challenges
Players cannot to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to re-examine other situations, including:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Potential interference at the conclusion of a rally.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a competitor can ask for.
A Recent Example
An illustrative case occurred in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a tough call for the official, but believed his rival had "used the regulations quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and determined Draper was guilty of hindrance, granting the point to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews in place at every one of its events.
Other Changes
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This solves situations where fans have sometimes been unsure whether a ball was in or out.
Finally, with exactly 100 days to go until the start of the Championships, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
